'The Social Network' Sweeps Golden Globes, Road To Oscar Ahead

We said, ages ago, 'The Social Network' might actually be a great movie. It seems that the Hollywood Foreign Press are apt to agree. (For the record: we are available for any of your critical/predictive needs, Hollywood. Just throwing that out there.) Last night, 'The Social Network' took home the Golden Globe for Best Picture -- Drama, which is an impressive feat, especially since the Globes are no longer just a pit-stop to the Oscars, but instead the Academy's cheeky, better-dressed, younger sibling. Of course, the producers took time to shout out "Mark Zuckerberg, for his willingness for letting us use his life and work as a metaphor to tell a story about communication and the way we relate to each other."

Of course, the Oscar is still the big enchilada, but the Globe proves the "Facebook Movie" could go all the way. The GGs are often the "populist" Academys, often awarding the "favorite" over the "best". However, unlike 'Avatar' and 'Atonement' (previous winners that didn't go on to nab a gold statue), 'The Social Network' may be that serendipitous movie where it is both loved by critics and fans alike. One thing is for certain: An Oscar nomination for 'The Social Network' would surprise exactly no one.
