David Fincherâs âThe Social Networkâ topped the generally predictable winners of the 16th annual Criticsâ Choice Movie Awards, handed out this evening by the Broadcast Film Critics Association. The film - which details the origins of Facebook - took awards for best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay, and best original score. After a near-complete domination of awards season thus far, the film is heading into the Oscar nominations a considerable frontrunner.
In addition to âThe Social Network,â major winners included Christopher Nolanâs âInception,â which dominated the technical categories and actually took home the most trophies of the night, David O. Russellâs âThe Fighterâ, which took awards for best ensemble, and for both Melissa Leo and Christian Bale for best supporting actress and actor, respectively, and Tom Hooperâs âThe Kingâs Speech,â which won both best actor (Colin Firth) and best original screenplay. All four films area all but guaranteed Oscar nominations for best picture.
Darren Aronofskyâs âBlack Swanâ headed into the ceremony with a record 12 nominations, but won only one, for Natalie Portmanâs performance.
Other winners included âWaiting For âSuperman,ââ which won best documentary feature over âInside Jobâ and âExit Through the Gift Shop,â and âThe Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,â which took best foreign language film over âI Am Loveâ and âBiutiful.â
